Training period on Heavy metals detection (26 - 30 May 2014)

The project activities of CAPS2 continue with the training sessions to strengthen the diagnostic capabilities of laboratories partners.

From 26 to 30 May 2014, two technicians from the Croatian Veterinary Institute of Split (Croatia) and one from the Center for Ecotoxicological Research of Podgorica (Montenegro) have attended the training on Heavy metals detection at the Chemistry Unit of IZSAM.

The period of training has been aimed to the implementation of analytical methods for the diagnosis of marine fish and shellfish diseases and check health standards for live mollusks (EU Regulation 853/2004).

After an initial introduction in the classroom, the trainees have attended the IZSAM laboratory for the remaining period of training, and they were able to test practically the indications received from the IZSAM experts on the topic in question.

Training period on Norovirus and Hepatitis A virus detection (19 - 23 May 2014)

In the framework of CAPS2 project, two technicians from the Croatian Veterinary Institute of Split (Croatia) attended a training period on Norovirus and Hepatitis A virus detection at the Virology Unit from 19 to 23 May, 2014.

The Croatian colleagues were hosted in IZSAM laboratories and trained in order to implement analytical methods on Norovirus, Hepatitis A virus detection and identification in seafood and joint development of innovative molecular methods.

This was a second week of training, organised to reinforce and deepen knowledge acquired during a first week of study period held in March.

Training period on Biotoxins detection (5 - 16 May 2014)

From 5 to 16 May 2014, the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise (IZSAM) hosted 5 technicians coming from CAPS2 project partner institutions  (three delegates from the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute of Albania and two from the Veterinary Faculty of the  University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina), for a two weeks training period on biotoxins detection at the Chemistry Unit.

During the first day, the trainees participated in a theoretical session in which tutors from IZSAM labs introduced principles of biotoxins detection, dealing with topics related with the determination of DSP in molluscs, relevant legislation in force, LC-MS/MS analysis of DSP, issues related with the determination PSP in molluscs, HPLC-FLD analysis of PSP.

The trainees could also practice directly at IZSAM laboratories and improve exchange of knowledge and experiences with IZSAM staff.

Interim Seminar of the CAPS2 project

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise organizes on 29 May, 2014 in Teramo, Italy, the seminar titled “CAPS2 project interim seminar: safety and surveillance in the aquaculture sector”.

The event is foreseen within the project “Strengthening of Centres for Aquaculture production and Safety surveillance in Adriatic Cross-border Countries – CAPS2” (www.caps2.eu), co-funded by the European Union in the framework of the programme IPA Adriatic Cross Border Cooperation 2007-2013.

The event will take place at the Conference Room of the International Centre for Veterinary Training and Information "F. Gramenzi" (CIFIV), located in Colleatterrato Alto (Teramo - Italy), starting from 9.00 am.

Participants are project partner representatives from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Montenegro, experts of the sector, personnel involved in projects activities and professionals interested in CAPS2 topics and fields of intervention: safety and surveillance in the aquaculture and fishery sector.

The seminar aims at disseminating goals, objectives and planned actions of the CAPS2 project, providing an overview of the interim activities already implemented and promoting exchange of knowledge and collaboration among involved partners of the Adriatic Area.
