A practical session on how to correctly use the CAPS2 web GIS , including data entry of the chemical, viral and microbiological tests results, was organised with all participants.

The Steering Committee Meeting in Albania was also the occasion to discuss about the future project work plan and further opportunities of cooperation among the Adriatic CAPS2 partners.

Training course on risk analysis approaches in food safety held in Podgorica, Montenegro (27 - 29 April 2015)

The CAPS2 project foresees the development of a risk assessment study and related trainings in order to evaluate the level of consumers’ exposure to contaminants in the consumption of fish and shellfish products in the Adriatic Area.

The first project training course on risk analysis in food safety was organised on 27-29 April 2015 by the Veterinary Administration of Montenegro in Podgorica, Montenegro, with the scientific support of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale”.

Participants, mainly belonging to project partners, National/ Local Competent Authorities and laboratories dealing with sampling and food safety issues, attended the training course aimed to develop basic knowledge and skills for a risk analysis approach to be implemented in the process of data collection and when addressing the contamination of food products.

The main goal of the training course was indeed to transfer basic knowledge on risk analysis process and to support the implementation of national surveillance plans in the Countries involved.

During the training event, the project partners have taken the opportunity to discuss about the state of the art of national surveillance plans in a specific session “WP5 - cross countries meeting”.

The risk assessment study will contribute in providing relevant information for decision makers on contamination risks, prevention and mitigation strategies in the Adriatic area.

Training on advanced Vibrio PCR methods at CVI - Croatia (20 - 24 April 2015)

From 20th to 24th of April 2015, the training period on Vibrio spp. detection was held at Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI) of Split. An expert from the “EURL – CEFAS – Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science” was invited to attend the training period as scientific coordinator on advanced Vibrio PCR methods, namely real time PCR and end point PCR. The participants were one expert from CVI, two from Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” of Teramo and other two from Food Safety Veterinary Institute of Albania.

The training aimed to the development of knowledge and skills in order to apply innovative molecular methods for species detection and identification of pathogenic determinants in Vibrio spp. strains isolated from seafood.

After a short presentation of working programme and administrative issues, trainees practiced in the laboratory molecular methods for Vibrio spp. detection, by setting up and running “monoplex” and “multiplex” conventional and real time PCR assay for Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio cholera.

The event was important to strengthen opportunities and objectives and give a further impulse to communication and networking among relevant actors involved in this Adriatic cooperation initiative.

Training on the CAPS2 web GIS application

GIS MOD

On 25-26 February 2015, CAPS2 partner delegates will participate in a training course on the web GIS application developed in the framework of the project by the IZSAM team.

20 participants from the Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI), the Centre for Ecotoxicological Research of Montenegro (CETI), the Veterinary Faculty of Sarajevo - Department of Food Hygiene and Technology (VFS), the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute of Albania (FSVI) , the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Croatia, the Veterinary Administration of Montenegro and the Veterinary Office of Bosnia-Herzegovina will meet in Teramo to attend a two-day training on the CAPS2 Web GIS application developed to contribute to the monitoring and surveillance of the fishery and aquaculture sector in the Adriatic Area.

The CAPS2 web GIS, composed by a series of applications for data management in aquaculture and for fish and mollusc disease notification, was developed with the aim to provide partner Countries with a tool useful to acquire, manage, query and display epidemiological information on aquaculture, fishes and molluscs diseases and provide available data to final users, policy makers, risk assessors, etc.

The learning objectives of the training course are to transfer knowledge on the functioning of the system,  to facilitate the implementation of the web GIS database and to create the basis for knowledge transfer and maintenance of the system at Country level.

Practical exercises, as well as moments of discussion, are foreseen in order to improve skills of the participants and favor cooperation among them.
