Training on Benzopyrene and other PAHs (27 - 31 January 2014)

The project "Strengthening of Centres of Aquaculture production and Safety surveillance in Adriatic Cross-border Countries" – CAPS2 (2 nd ORD/0216) has as one specific objective to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and know-how in relation to heavy metals, benzopyrene and other Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and biotoxins contamination of fish and shellfish produced in the Adriatic sea.

In this framework, the first training period at the IZSAM laboratories has been organized from 27 to 31 January 2014.
Project partner laboratories involved for this initial training period were: the Croatian Veterinary Institute, involving both laboratories of Split and Rijeka, and the Centre for Ecotoxicological Research of Montenegro. A total of 5 persons were trained.
The training period consisted of both theoretic and practical training activities: following an introductory training day in classroom, participants were involved in laboratories testing and experiences in the Chemistry Unit of IZSAM "G. Caporale", Teramo, Italy. Discussion and cooperation among participants and IZSAM staff was promoted to achieve a more effective exchange of knowledge.
