Capitalization projects of Caps2 results

Three projects for the capitalisation of CAPS2 results have been submitted in the “targeted call on EUSAIR” funded by IPA Adriatic CBC programme 2007-2013 and in the first ordinary call for proposal of ADRION INTERREG programme 2014-2020.

One project was funded under the targeted call on EUSAIR and the other one submitted in the first call of ADRION is still waiting for the technical scrutiny.

The project entitled “CAPitalization and exploitation of RADar-based infrastructure and decision support system for environmental hazard management NETwork in the Adriatic and Ionian region - CapRadNet” was funded by IPA Adriatic CBC program 2007-13 under the targeted call on EUSAIR. This capitalization project started on June 2016 until December 2016. CapRadNet capitalizes three IPA projects, ADRIARADNET, CAPS2 and ROOF OF ROCKS.

CapRadNET integrated the public area of CAPS2 web gis in Seawetra portal in order to jointly analyse the marine environmental data together with sanitary ones. Moreover the sanitary data of molluscs in Abruzzi region have been integrated with environmental data of CHYM model (hydro-metereological model developed by the University of L’Aquila).

CapRadNet project aims at extending the DSS (developed by ADRIARADNET) capability to face hazard mitigation taking into account maritime, coastal, airport and metropolitan environments.

CAPS2 recognised in the action plan of EUSAIR

The new EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission and endorsed by the European Council in 2014. The Strategy was jointly developed by the European Commission, together with the Adriatic-Ionian Region countries and stakeholders, in order to address common challenges together. The Strategy aims at creating synergies and fostering coordination among all territories in the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

In the EUSAIR Action Plan, the European Commission recognised CAPS2 as «a project that could aim at strengthening diagnostic capacities of laboratories, for contamination of fish and shellfish and to develop concrete improvements of diagnostic competences in terms of equipment and knowledge, skills and capacities.»

In the European programming period 2014-2020, the Action Plan of the Strategy will be implemented by mobilising and aligning all available EU, international, national and private funding.

In the next period, CAPS2 will have many occasions and financial instruments to valorise its achievements and results.

These new projects aim to develop further research and innovation in the aquaculture sector that should be economically sustainable and environmentally-friendly, supplying healthy food products in accordance to the EU and the international legislation in this field.

Final conference of the project (5 May 2016)

The final conference of the CAPS2 project was organised in Split by the Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI), Regional Veterinary Institute Split, Dalmatia- Croatia , Lead partner of the project.

“Safety and surveillance in the aquaculture sector: results and perspectives” was the title of the conference.

The event aimed at presenting all project activities and achievements, offering also an opportunity to inspire future collaboration initiatives among partners and relevant stakeholders of the sector.

Main objectives were to stimulate exchange of knowledge and experiences in the field of aquaculture production and safety surveillance among Adriatic countries; to present all project activities and main results of the CAPS2 initiative; to encourage networking among partners and other stakeholders in the Adriatic Area as concerns safety and surveillance of the aquaculture sector.

The event was addressed to participants coming from project partners institutions, experts and stakeholders belonging to national, regional and local veterinary organisations.

At the end of the conference partners and experts explored further research and innovation actions on aquaculture sector supplying healthy food products in accordance to the EU and the international legislation.

Seventh Steering Committee Meeting in Split (3/4 May 2016)

On 3rd and 4th May 2016, the Croatian Veterinary Institute organized in Split, Croatia, the last Steering Committee meeting of the CAPS2 project.

The project partners’ representatives, coming from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy and Montenegro, met and discussed about the executed project activities and to define the closing actions of the project.

In that occasion, the CAPS2 partners overviewed the various work packages achievements and analysed, in particular, the final risk assessment study.

The Steering Committee Meeting was also the occasion to discuss about the future potential projects and further opportunities of cooperation among the Adriatic CAPS2 partners.

Study visit to the Croatian Veterinary Authorities (20/21 April 2016)

Representatives of Veterinary Authorities coming from Montenegro travelled to the Croatian city of Ston to experience the implementation of official controls in mollusc and fish aquaculture plants established in Croatia.

During the first theoretical session of the visit, experts from Croatian Veterinary Institute and Directorate for veterinary and food safety - Croatian Ministry of Agriculture explained the general requirements for the production, harvesting and placing on the market of live bivalve molluscs. The organization of official controls in Croatia were explained in details: from the classification of production areas and microbiological monitoring of harvesting areas, to hygiene requirements for purification and dispatch centers.

The Montenegrin Authorities - the Directorate for food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary affairs and the Directorate for Inspection of Montenegrin Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - travelled and visited selected production areas in Ston, as well as purification and dispatch centers.

Final discussion and conclusion was focused on the state of the art of the implementation of official controls in Montenegro as planned in the work package no 5 of CAPS2 project.

This study visit was the occasion to share and strengthen the knowledge on important economic aspect of the Adriatic area, the mollusc production.
